It is not too late to be a part of the 2016 Christmas Parade to be held on Main Street in North East Saturday, December 3, 2016 beginning at noon.

The success of the parade is because of community-minded folks such as yourselves. For those that have been a part of the parade in the past, we are reaching out to you in hopes that you will again be a part of that success and decide to be in the upcoming parade. If you have not participated in the Christmas Parade in the past, don’t let this year pass you by. If you are looking to have fun and make others smile- we can help you.

Third Cecil County Watershed Stewards Academy Application Deadline Extended to October 3

ELKTON, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Cecil County Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA) is accepting applications for classes to be held this fall. The program is a partnership with the Cecil County Department of Public Works-Development Services Division and the University of Maryland Sea Grant Extension. The WSA program trains adult community leaders in ways to reduce polluted stormwater runoff, improve local water quality. Participants will complete an intensive 16-course training program consisting of classroom and hands-on field work, a class project, and an individual capstone project in their community.

Once trained, participants achieve the designation of Master Watershed Steward and work with other members of their communities to assess watersheds to help identify sources of pollution and restoration opportunities, educate their community on pollution sources and how to reduce them, implement small-scale stormwater management practices such as installing rain barrels or constructing rain gardens, inspect and/or maintain small-scale stormwater management Best Management Practices (BMP), and connect communities with environmental resources and people who can help restore watersheds.

Mayor & Commissioners Adopt FY 2017 Budget

The Mayor and Commissioners of the Town of North East unanimously adopted a $6.1 million budget for the Fiscal Year 2017 Budget for the year that begins on July 1, 2016 during their June 8, 2016 meeting.

The adopted budget retains the Town’s tax rate of $0.48 per $100 of assessed value and includes a 2% inflationary increase in water rates for both in and out of town residents as well as significant investments the Town’s infrastructure by funding deferred maintenance items and design and engineering funding to plan for future improvements to the Town.

A public hearing was held on May 25, 2016 at 7:00 on the proposed budget and tax/water rates. No members of the public testified at that hearing. The Mayor and Commissioners adopted the budget presented at the public hearing with no changes. The FY 2017 budget as well as the presentation from the May 25 public hearing are available at www.northeastmd.org/budget. Free Concert: USAF Band – June 25, 2016

Harts United Methodist Church will be hosting a free concert on Saturday, June 25, 2016 starting at 6:00 PM.

The United States Air Force Band, Airmen of Note, a 21 piece big band Featuring Mad Men Glen Martin & Eva Musk will be playing at the Harts UMC 638 seat amphitheater with stunning views of the North East River. Food will be available, featuring Elk Neck Strawberry Ice Cream. Harts UMC is located six miles south of North East on Turkey Point Road (MD-272).

Annual Flag Day Celebration – June 14, 2016

The Town of North East will be hosting its annual Flag Day Celebration on June 14, 2016 at 6:45 PM at the North East Community Park located at the end of Walnut Street. Women’s Civic League of North East Ninth Annual Secret Garden Tour

The Women’s Civic League of North East announces its Ninth Annual Secret Garden Tour on Saturday, May 21. The Event takes place rain or shine, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and features eight gardens in and around the town of North East, Maryland.

The self-driving tour includes charming town gardens, a golf course community, and waterfront properties with views of the North East River. Highlights include towering trees, container gardens, hardscapes, and secret pathways.

This annual garden event, sponsored exclusively by Crouch Funeral Home, is the major fund raiser for the Civic League. The League, established in 1951, is celebrating 65 years promoting literacy in North East, particularly the North East Branch Library.

Tickets are $15.00 in advance and may be purchased at North East Town Hall, the Silver Buckle  on Main Street, and UnWined on Mauldin Ave. Tickets are available on the day of the tour at St. Mary Anne’s Parish House, 315 S. Main St, North East. Tickets include a map and diving directions.
